The Oral Microbiome Test provides a detailed analysis of bacteria, archaea, and fungi in the mouth, essential for oral and overall health. Using advanced shotgun sequencing, it evaluates a saliva sample, identifying up to 700 microbes. It reports on 25 potential pathogens linked to plaque, cavities, gum disease, and inflammation, as well as 16 opportunistic taxa, highlighting patterns associated with specific health risks. Only detected microbes are reported, focusing on the balance of beneficial (commensal) and harmful (pathogenic)microbes. Unlike gut or vaginal microbiomes, where diversity is linked to health, oral health depends more on microbial balance than diversity, so diversity metrics are excluded. This test helps assess functional capabilities and the oral microbiome's role in health.

Emerging research underscores the vital link between oral and overall health. Conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and even cognitive decline can have ties to the oral microbiome.
