Test information

The Comprehensive Stool Analysis with PCR offers an in-depth evaluation of gut health by assessing levels of beneficial bacteria, imbalanced commensal organisms, and the presence of pathogenic bacteria or yeast. When pathogenic microbes are detected, a sensitivity panel is included to guide the selection of appropriate pharmaceutical or natural treatment options.

This test also measures digestive efficiency through markers such as faecal elastase, fat, and carbohydrate levels, providing insight into how well nutrients are being broken down and absorbed. Inflammatory markers—calprotectin, lysozyme, and lactoferrin—help to identify inflammation in the gut and can assist in distinguishing between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The test also evaluates the gut’s immune response via secretory IgA (sIgA), an important indicator of mucosal immunity. Additionally, it assesses levels of short-chain fatty acids, which reflect overall gut health and the balance of the microbiome.

This profile is particularly useful for individuals experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, autoimmune conditions, joint pain, IBD, IBS, chronic inflammation, food sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies, or skin disorders.

You also have the option to include add-on testing for Zonulin and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) as part of your stool analysis.

Elevated levels of faecal zonulin family protein have been linked to increased intestinal permeability (commonly referred to as "leaky gut"), as well as metabolic syndrome and obesity, making it a valuable marker for assessing gut barrier function.

Helicobacter pylori is a microorganism that colonises the stomach lining and has been associated with a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other more serious gastrointestinal disorders.
